On December 23, the transfer ceremony of Daw Khin Kyi Women Hospital was held in Yangon. Among the guests are Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s State Counsellor, Li Xiaoyan, Charge D'affaires of China’s embassy in Myanmar, Ms. Wang Xuehong, wife of China’s ambassador to Myanmar, the representative of China Foundation for Peace and Development, Myanmar’s Health Minister, First Minister of Yangon Province, Mr. Fu Qiang, Chief Engineer of Sinopharm International, and Mr. Li Bobo, Executive Director of China-Myanmar Friendship Association.

The project, which include upgrade and expansion, is financed by the Chinese embassy in Myanmar and China Foundation for Peace and Development, and jointly implemented by China-Myanmar Friendship Association and Sinopharm International.

In their speeches, Aung San Suu Kyi and Wang Xuehong praised the effort by Sinopharm International in upgrading and expanding the hospital. They said the hospital is a testimony of the Sino-Myanmar relations, and will benefit women and children across Myanmar. Later in the ceremony, Mr. Fu Qiang, representing Sinopharm International, received the letter of thanks from the First Minister of Yangon Province.

Daw Khin Kyi, the mother of Aung San Suu Kyi, took in charge of the hospital back in 1943. For a number of years, the hospital operation almost came to a halt due to insufficient fund and employees, and years of worn down without repair.

The upgraded hospital will become fully functional special clinic with advanced equipment, and will provide better service to local children and women. The hospital is Sinopharm International’s first EPC project in Myanmar. From feasibility studies to the design and construction, and medical equipment installation and training thereafter, Sinopharm International received great support from the Chinese embassy in Myanmar, China Foundation for Peace and Development, Myanmar’s health ministry, Yangon provincial government, and the hospital itself.

The ceremony received wide coverage by both local and Chinese medias, including People’s Daily, Xinhua News, and China Radio International, etc.
